John Schumacher is Vice President, Space line of business for EADS North America. He is responsible for leveraging the company’s broad Space product and technology offerings to meet the needs of U.S. customers.
Prior to joining EADS North America, Schumacher was the Vice President of Washington Operations for Aerojet General Corporation. In this position, he led the expansion of Aerojet’s activities with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and other U.S. government, civilian and military customers.
Schumacher has spent nearly 25 years in government service. He worked as Chief of Staff at NASA during the redirection of America’s Space program following the loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia in 2003. He had previously worked at NASA as Associate Administrator for External Relations. In this position he led the agency’s efforts to expand cooperative programs in science, technology and human Space flight.
Schumacher also served in the Navy, aboard the U.S.S. Guadalcanal and in the space and electronic warfare directorates of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Chief of Naval Operations Staff. In addition, he commanded four Naval Reserve units.
He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and holds an advanced degree from Georgetown University. He also holds a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University. He has received numerous awards including the Senior Executive Service Presidential Rank (Distinguished and Executive); NASA’s highest award, and the Department of Defense Legion of Merit.
